Therapist

Pronouns: they/them

We all carry internalized burdens from living in an individualistic society that discourages us from connecting with each other openly, honestly, and lovingly. We find meaning in human connection and community, which inspires us to feel purpose in ourselves. I believe the value of therapy helps model the ways in which we build connections with other people in the world, and in turn allows us to find our own way of living and moving forward. My goal is to accompany clients and provide space in this journey of understanding ourselves, so we can all begin showing up to the world striving to be our best selves.

About Channy

I am a queer, nonbinary, Chinese American who values the healing nature of a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. As a therapist, I meet clients with warmth, openness, and without judgment. I believe that you are the expert on understanding yourself, not the therapist, and that my role is to create an environment that is safe and affirming for you to learn about yourself more intimately.

Working with Channy

My work is rooted in a relational, person-centered approach to therapy in which I work to cultivate a genuine, affirming relationship with my clients where they feel they have the autonomy to be vulnerable and explore themselves. I also integrate practices from CBT to help clients recognize where their own negative self-talk can prove to be a barrier to them living the way they truly want to live, taking into consideration the various social structures that we occupy and the degrees of marginalization we experience within them.

On the topic of addressing internal conflicts, I can use an IFS approach to help externalize the parts of ourselves that feel in tension with each other, so we can learn how to turn towards their fundamental needs. Lastly, I have also begun exploring themes from existential therapy and the way they permeate through a majority of our internal preoccupations - mortality, meaning making, free will, etc.

Specialty

I have specialized experience working with individuals pertaining to experiences such as sexuality and gender identity, relationships (monogamy or non-monogamy), racism, trauma, intimate partner violence and sexual abuse, depression, difficult life changes, and anxiety.
